    Typically, how would the Knight's Cross be worn? I know it's usually worn with the ribbon, but I have seen some wear it with what looks like a simple, very short rope chain just made out of cordage. I can't really tell, (because it's black and white and fuzzy), but that's definitely not the ribbon. It's almost like a necklace. If anyone could help me, it would be much appreciated. Also, did they sew the ribbon to fit the wearer's neck, or did it have snaps? Thanks!

    CYQ spreewerke .= bad surface finsih....BUT BEST RELIABILITY (slide build by Browning.... assembly in occuped territory...like Tchek Republic....? ) ........ENORMOUS PERCENTAGE OF BYF. And even a consequent number of whalther (latter than 1943..) are destroyed by slide cracking....... BYF NEED 115 GRS SLOW BULLETS. LIKE AN OLD LUGER P08 no more than 330 ft/lbs.. ..NO MODERN AMMO.....a. WHALTER born before 1944 or a CYQ can use all modern manufactured ammo EXCEPT +P.. ..for late born Walther i advice to stay at 115 grs under an E0 of 350 ft-lbs ....respect ancestors !!!

    Actually, calling it the Condor Legion wound badge is a misconception. The appropriate term would be first pattern wound badge. The first pattern was awarded in Spain but they were also given out in the first years of the Second World War, it wasn’t exclusive to the condor legion. The analogy I would like to use is “the iron cross was given out at Stalingrad, but we don’t call it the Stalingrad cross.” This is also considering the fact that the first pattern in silver was only handed out to a single recipient in Spain. No gold ones were awarded in Spain.

      If it has the ss button at the top of the table and if the blade says "meine ehre heißt treue" then it is ss. Given the fact that you paid 25 dollars is kind of weird, because an authentic one costs around 2000-3000 dollars, I have even seen one sold for 12000 dollars. Check it on some forums. Even so, a high quality repro is around 140 dollars, so you lost nothing either way.

    Actually all of the late war p38 pistols have a somewhat crude finish. I have one of each, cyq, byf and ac manufactured in 43 and 44. By that point in the war the Germans were no longer concerned with making their weapons pretty, they just wanted them functioning and in the field quickly. I will however admit that the spreewerke variants are a bit more rough than those produced by Mauser and Walther. Very cool pieces of history you have there.

    I'm sure you probably know by now, but your Iron Cross is the first award(class), not the second award (class). The first award came with the ribbon on it and was only worn as it appears on the day it was awarded and on special dress occasions. Subsequently the ribbon was worn in the top button hole of the uniform, the medal was otherwise never worn. The Iron Cross 2nd Class never ever came with a ribbon. It was sewn or otherwise attached to the soldiers left breast pocket and had loops on the back of the medal for attaching/sewing it. The only other award was the Knight's Cross, which was the 3rd award and always worn around the neck.

    • @skeebz
      @skeebz 6 лет назад

      the EK.2 (2nd class) was the lower award. The EK.1 (1st class) was the higher. The Knight's Cross was above both of them.
